This Is Lagos is a project that means everything to me. Since I started music as an independent artist I have been through many highs and lows. For a few years I contemplated stopping all together and doing something else. When I least expected it I met my manager Jay, and decided to take one final shot at making it on to the scene. We went to Lagos with the intention of making a few songs and seeing where it would go. However, while I was there I fell back in love with the whole process, from listening to beats to then writing the music and recording it. I worked with incredible artist producers and creatives that further inspired me to give it my all. I had so much fun making this music and I truly believe it’s my best body of work yet. I see a lot of personal growth in myself and I hope my fans and people that have been listening also see that growth and evolution to my sound. I wanted to make a body of work that truly showed a fusion of my Caribbean roots, and the amazing culture and vybz of Lagos, Nigeria. I believe that this EP shows that blend of the two sounds. It shows my range and diversity and that I am not just capable of making one kind of music, but I can adapt to different settings and create vybz for all sorts of listeners. This EP is supposed to bring good vybz and energy to the people listening. We called it “This Is Lagos” not to impose on the Afro-beats culture and try to make it my own, but to pay homage to the music that I love, and a second home that I found in Nigeria. I hope everyone loves this project as much as I do.
